Chapter : 27
Ariel felt her chest squeezing tightly. She was both shocked and a little in disbelief.
It wasn’t until a long while later that she finally opened up to ask, “Since that’s the case, then when, may I ask, do you have the time to go and…‘
She didn’t manage to finish her sentence with “…finalize the divorce” when Jayson’s phone suddenly began ringing loudly.
He cast a glance at Ariel before turning to the side to answer the call. His tone was obviously softer and gentler when he spoke. “Okay, I’m coming back now.”
He didn’t even care if Ariel still had things to discuss with him. He just turned around and started walking off in a hurry. It reminded her of how he used to treat her in the past, just as coldly as before.
Initially, Ariel also wanted to ask him when he’d be available to visit Betty and tell her the truth.
After seeing Jayson rushing toward Nancy without a doubt, Ariel just turned around and got into her car.
Whatever. They still had the next time. She didn’t have the mental capacity or physical energy to argue with him at the moment.
Ariel opened all the pills and removed them from their packaging, arranging them neatly in a glass bottle. Then, Ariel got rid of all the packaging before hurrying to Faye Technologies.
Since Ariel never said she was the patient going to the hospital, Janice thought Ariel had only gone to visit Leonard. So, she asked about his condition.
Ariel recalled the sheer pain etched on Leonard’s face, but despite it, he moved. She shut her eyes and shook her head, overwhelmed by the memory. “He’s still like that.”
Janice looked sad and gave Ariel a hug.
Ariel hugged her back and said, “It’s fine.”
That night, after work, Ariel went back home and organized her thoughts. Drones were going to be very valuable assets for future technologies, and Faye Technologies was already working very closely with an industry partner now. Ariel had actually managed to come up with a full plan, but she still needed to discuss it with Chad.
Soon, the clock struck 10:00 pm. Ariel’s first alarm rang, reminding her to take her medication on time. She forced down the bile taste in her mouth while she took the pills. Then, she immediately got a call from Chad.
“Ari, there’s something I need to talk to you about.”
“What is it?”
“I went to see Ryan Eastwood today, and both Jayson and Nancy were there. Nancy said she wanted to collaborate with us for the next big project. She sure has a huge appetite!”
Ariel was surprised at Nancy’s self–confidence. “What did Mr. Larkin say?”
Chad burst into laughter. “He’s willing to pump the funds in. As long as we agreed to it, it would be akin to us
having another investor in this project.”
Ariel bent down slowly to hold on to the kitchen island. She couldn’t help a bitter smile from gracing her lips.
Was this Jayson’s way of showing her that Nancy was qualified enough to see whoever she wanted and do whatever she liked? Was this what it meant for him to back her up all the time?
“You don’t have to concern yourself with me. We started this project also because we want to make money. If you think she fits the bill, there’s no harm in trying.”
Ariel refused to mix her personal and work life together, especially if it was all for the sake of the company. Plenty more people had poured their hearts and souls into Faye Technologies. There was no reason for them to prioritize her feelings first over everyone else’s.
Moreover, she just couldn’t care less now.
“You don’t mind her? But what if I do?” Chad answered with a guffaw. “There are a lot more other larger and more powerful companies other than Bluum Corp. Remember, Faye Tech is the one calling the shots, not the other way around!
“Just proceed with your usual work and leave these things to me. You don’t have to worry about them at all!” Ariel felt a gush of warmth rushing through her. “Thank you, Chad.”
Chad scoffed and said, “You’re too polite with me. Gross. I’m hanging up.”
Ariel then stared at her phone screen and felt the corners of her lips turn up.
She didn’t know how Chad was going to reject Jayson and Nancy, but she wasn’t going to poke her nose there because it was none of her business.
She just turned around and went to bed.
Back at the club, Matt set down the cards he was playing and asked incredulously, “Rejected?”
He thought that it was ridiculous. “Nancy has an Arcadia Tech PhD, and Chad still thinks that she isn’t good enough? Who’s good enough for him, then?”

Perry cast a sideway glance at Jayson, who was sitting quietly by the side. “My dad said the upper management is placing a lot of focus on Chad’s U.N2, It’s a brand–new innovative system in weaponry with no shortcomings, and all of Faye Tech’s upcoming projects are crucial to its success. So, it’s normal for him to have such high standards.
As the man who had created U.N2 five years ago, Chad certainly had the merits to boast about his capabilities. And to date, nobody else has ever managed to crack his ideas and designs for the system. That alone was enough to prove just how important of a person he was.
“So what role exactly is Ariel playing here? I refuse to believe that she isn’t using this to get back at you as her personal revenge!”
Matt believed that Ariel had to have something to do with all this.
“She’s employed at Faye Tech now,” Jayson said in an unhurried manner.
Both Matt and Perry were astounded.
“Who, her? Ariel? Ariel Walker?” Matt burst into laughter, a clear expression of malicious joy on his face as he asked, “What can she even do there? Janitor? Personal secretary?”
