Ariel had already guessed what this might be about before coming. Either it was about the house, or there was some trouble with Betty.
Before she could respond, Jayson’s phone rang. It was a WhatsApp video call.
She glanced over. Unsurprisingly, it was Betty.
Jayson answered immediately. Betty’s eyes quickly landed on Ariel beside him. She smiled warmly and called out, “Ari, are you both home?”
Ariel hesitated for a moment but forced herself to say, “Yes, Grandma. The company’s been busy lately, so I haven’t had time to come visit.”
If it weren’t for the divorce agreement, she wouldn’t be here playing this act.
Betty said affectionately, “That’s alright. Work is important. But you still need to take care of your body. I told Jayson to bring you back to Larkin Manor. He’s always saying you’re too busy.”
“I wasn’t lying, was 1?” Jayson responded calmly.
Betty gave him a glare. “You have the nerve to say that? What kind of husband are you? You can’t even take care of your own wife. Look how thin Ari’s gotten!”
Ariel knew Betty truly cared about her. If it weren’t for Betty protecting her these past years, life would have been even harder.
She tried her best to soothe Betty and exchanged a few words with her.
Before hanging up, Betty suddenly said, “Your grandpa’s war comrade, Jackson, is having a birthday party next month. I’m not feeling well, so you two will have to go and represent me.”
Ariel wasn’t prepared for that.
She and Jayson showing up together?
Back when they were secretly married, no one knew about their relationship. Now that they were divorced, showing up together would be even more inappropriate.
Jayson was thinking about the same thing. He glanced at Ariel before politely declining, “Grandma, we’ll see if we have time.”
Betty was not happy. “No excuses! Jackson saved your grandpa’s life. This is a matter of respect. No arguing! Alright, you two rest early. I won’t keep you.”
She clearly wasn’t open to discussion. She waved her hand and ended the call
Ariel’s expression darkened. How could they possibly refuse without letting Betty know they were divorced?
Jayson glanced at her. “We’ll figure it out when the time comes.”
Ariel thought for a moment. “Fine, you handle it.”
He put away his phone and casually added, “There are still some of your things here. I had you tome to deal with Grandma and ask if you want those things.”
Ariel didn’t hesitate. “No, just throw them out.”
“The items you sent to my office have been returned. Georga stored them in the study. Is there anything you want
to take?” Jayson asked.
Ariel hadn’t expected Georgia to keep the things.

“No need. They’re not important or valuable anymore. You can deal with them yourself.”
Ariel thought back. The gifts she had once carefully prepare for Jayson had been gathering dust in his office for years. Maybe the things themselves weren’t out of date, but the feelings behind them were.
She didn’t care, and Jayson probably thought of them as burlens. It was better to throw them away.
As Jayson looked down at her, his eyes were unreadable. Finally, he smirked. “Fine.”
Ariel thought the conversation was over, so she stood up to leave.
Jayson studied her thoughtfully. His gaze drifted over her from head to toe with a detached look. Then, suddenly, he said, “You’ve really lost weight.”
