Chapter 206
After that night, Alexander never came back.
Camila missed him so much it hurt. She’d lied, telling him her dad was still making trouble for her, begging for a place to stay so she could focus on the pregnancy. Alexander barely reacted. She had to practically beg, asking him to set her up somewhere safe. Eventually, maybe just to get her off his back, he arranged for her to move into a villa.
He almost never visited. The only time he did was when Natalie brought over the Baby’s Breath and, out of nowhere, Alexander decided to have friends over for dinner. After that, the Baby’s Breath ended up broken. Alexander immediately blamed Natalie, insisting she did it on purpose and demanding she pay for it. Natalie was obviously at fault, but Camila could feel that Alexander’s attitude toward her had become even colder since then.
Not long after, Alexander vanished again.
A few days later, Camila heard that Ms. Turner had gotten into trouble, and so had Mr. Reyes, the one who’d helped Laura that day. Camila just knew it had something to do with Natalie. Alexander had seemed hands-off at the time, but when both Laura Turner and Mr. Reyes ran into problems that same night, Camila couldn’t help but put two and two together.
Just thinking about Natalie made Camila grit her teeth. Both of them were already divorced, but Natalie still tried every trick to get Alexander’s attention.
Camila went online and searched for foods that could cause signs of a miscarriage without actually endangering the baby. If anything happened, they’d bring her straight to The Ramirez Hospital. She had to make it look real.
It worked. Alexander showed up. He hadn’t answered her calls, but he came running when he heard she was in trouble.
In the end, she got what she wanted. Alexander came back to her side. As for the baby, she figured they could get engaged first and sort out the rest later.
Meanwhile, Natalie finished revising the agreement, read it over one last time, and sent it to Alexander. It was late, but he’d said he’d wait for it no matter how long it took, so she didn’t hesitate.
Camila’s supposed miscarriage had the whole hospital on edge. The director recommended she stay a few days for observation, just in case. Alexander told his mother and grandmother to go home, assuring them he’d stay with Camila. Camila’s heart soared. But as soon as Savannah and Charlotte left, Alexander asked Aaron Lee to find a nurse for her.
“Alex, aren’t you going to stay with me?” Camila looked at him, eyes wide and hopeful.
“I’ve got work to do. If you need anything, just have the nurse call a doctor p>
Right then, his phone chimed. He checked it. Natalie had sent the revised agreement.
“Get some rest.” Alexander walked out of the room.
Camila was furious. She’d seen his phone screen-Natalie’s name popped up. That woman. She swore she wouldn’t let Natalie get away with this.
Alexander didn’t stay with Camila, but he didn’t leave the hospital either. Instead, he went up to the VIP suite on the top floor. His

grandmother wanted him nearby, and technically, staying in the same building counted.
He pulled out his phone and read through the agreement. As he scrolled, a faint smirk tugged at his lips. He started typing.
Natalie had just come out of the shower and was about to get into bed when her phone buzzed. She picked it up.
Alexander: [The agreement is decent enough. I’ll accept it, though just barely p>
Decent enough? If she hadn’t made changes, the original terms would have been totally one-sided. As the
one paying back the debt, she had
every right to fix the unfair parts.
Wearing her silk pajamas, Natalie sat on the edge of her bed and replied: [I’ll sign it
and send you a copy p>
A moment later, another message arrived.
Alexander: [Once you sign, you have to keep your promise p>
Natalie: [Of course p>
But as soon as she sent the
message
Natalie couldn’t shake the
way
feeling that Alexander was actually looking forward to her signing more than he let on.
