Chapter 224
“It will be perfectly comfortable, I promise,” Mr. Main said quickly, glancing over at Alexander as he spoke.
Even though Alexander and Camila were engaged, Alexander had already bought her expensive jewelry at two different auctions. Mr. Main figured his room assignment made sense. Still, Alexander didn’t look happy about it at all.
Meanwhile, Camila’s cheeks were bright red.
Bruce watched the whole scene, feeling nervous for Mr. Main. He had no idea he’d just stepped on something that might set Alexander off. Bruce was about to suggest that Isabella and Camila share a room instead.
“If Mr. Ramirez thinks this isn’t appropriate Mr. Main started, his voice careful. Alexander was a big deal in Cabinda’s business world and definitely someone you didn’t want to upset.
“It’s fine,” Alexander cut him off, his tone cold.
Bruce stared, completely caught off guard. What was going on here?
Alexander didn’t seem to notice the surprise in the room. He just kept his cool, distant look.
Bruce shot a quick glance at Natalie, but she was looking down at her phone, pretending she wasn’t listening. It was like the whole conversation had nothing to do with her.
Natalie finally looked up and tucked her phone away. “Mr. Main, can you tell me which room is mine p>
Mr. Main pointed behind her. “This one,” he said. Then he added, “It’s right next to Mr. Ramirez and Ms. White’s room p>
Apparently, Mr. Main knew how to make things interesting. Natalie thought about saying something, but decided it wasn’t worth the drama.
Once everyone got their room keys, they all headed off to their own spaces.
After a shower, Natalie settled back against the headboard and started texting Arianna. Arianna was busy planning a surprise birthday for Steven, determined to make it special.
Natalie remembered Arianna once saying she still had feelings for someone else. Now, though, Steven seemed to be the one. Maybe he was exactly what Arianna needed to finally move on.
Thinking about Steven herself, Natalie realized she must have read him wrong before. If Steven really was Arianna’s soulmate, Natalie would be genuinely happy for her.
Suddenly, a dull, rhythmic thumping broke the quiet. It sounded like a bed bumping against the wall, again and again. Natalie frowned, listening. The noise was definitely coming from the other side of her headboard.
Curious, she leaned closer and pressed her ear to the wall. ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ.net
She could hear a woman’s soft gasps and a man’s low moans, intimate and impossible not to notice. Natalie’s cheeks burned as she jumped away from the wall.
For a second, she tried to remember who was in the next room. Then it hit her. Alexander and Camila.
Just like that, her calm vanished, replaced by a rush of confusion. Was this what Alexander meant when he asked her for a month? Camila was pregnant, and Alexander was already in such a hurry?
She remembered the night of the banquet, when Alexander told her Camila couldn’t be with him, so he came to Natalie instead. After she turned him down, did he go right back to Camila?
Natalie felt ridiculous for even
thinking about it. She flopped down and pulled the covers over her head, trying to block out the sounds coming through the wall. After a few minutes, she threw the blanket off again. It was way too hot under there. Was she suppose to hide all night?
The noises from next door didn’t stop.
Natalie got up, threw on some fresh clothes, and left the room. There was no way
she could sleep with all that going on.
She walked for a while and finally found the front desk. “Excuse me, do you have any regular rooms available p>
“I’m sorry, miss, but we’re completely full tonight p>
Natalie had hoped for any room at all, even the most basic, but the place was packed.
With no options left, she decided not to go back right away. If they were still at it p>
She headed outside, taking the long way around the grounds.
The night was beautiful, at least. She walked slowly under the warm yellow lights lining the path, her footsteps barely making a sound. Occasionally, a cricket chirped The moonlight poured down, silver and soft, tracing the curves of the winding trail and blending with the glow from the lamps.
Natalie felt like she’d made the right call. The night really was stunning out here.
After a while, she spotted a little
pavilion up ahead, old-fashioned and
peaceful. As she got closer, she saw someone inside tall
Broad-shouldered figure with his hands in his pockets. The moonlight outlined him perfectly. Natalie took a few steps closer and realized who it was. Alexander Ramirez.
She couldn’t help but think of the sounds she’d heard earlier. How was he out here
already? He was looking down at his phone, completely absorbed.
Natalie quietly turned away, hoping he wouldn’t notice her.
