“What’s Alexander doing down there?” Arianna’s voice was full of surprise as she peered out the window.
Natalie watched Alexander standing in the rain, her face completely unreadable. “Just ignore him. Let’s finish eating p>
Arianna shot her a worried look. “Natalie, are you really not going to talk to him? He’s just standing out there in the rain. Aren’t you even a little worried p>

Arianna hesitated. “Natalie, I think there’s been a big misunderstanding between you two p>
She was still angry at Alexander for hurting Natalie-pain was pain, no matter the reasons. But she had also seen how much Natalie once loved him. She didn’t want Natalie making a decision she’d regret, not when she didn’t know the whole story.

She got up, grabbed an umbrella from the rack, and headed for the door.
Arianna let out a long breath, then pulled out her phone and texted Bruce. I told her everything. I think she’s going to forgive him.
Bruce replied right away. Thank you, thank you. Dinner’s on me next time.
Arianna rolled her eyes and typed back. Don’t get ahead of yourself. And tell Alexander, if he ever hurts Natalie again, he’ll have to deal with me first.
Downstairs, Natalie stepped out of the elevator and walked through the lobby She pushed open the door to the building and found Alexander still standing in the pouring rain. The moment he saw her, his eyes lit up, hope flickering across his face.
“Natalie His voice was rough, almost breaking.
She didn’t look at him directly. “Here, dry off.” She handed him a pack of tissues
from her pocket, then opened the umbrella and held it over his head.
Alexander took the tissues, feeling warmth spread through his chest He didn’t use them right away. He just looked at Natalie hope shining, in his eyes. “So… you’re giving me another chance p>
He’d been coming here every day. He never thought she’d notice, let alone come out to see him tonight.
Natalie finally looked at him, her eyes cool and steady. “Don’t come here anymore. We’re done. I don’t want to see you again p>
Her words hit him hard. Alexander’s hand tightened around the tissues.
She kept going, her voice even. “And that land you transferred to my name—I’ll ask Professor Ramirez to help me transfer it back p>
