This was unreal.
“Andrew, what are you doing?”
Dennis doubled over, holding his stomach as he glared up at Andrew. His fists were clenched tight, his voice sharp. “Seriously? You’re sticking up for some country girl who just got here?”
“I’m warning you. Stay away from Charlotte. If you touch her again, I’ll make you regret it.”
Andrew was really standing up for Charlotte. Did he actually like her? The thought sent a ripple of shock through everyone watching.
Olivia’s fingers curled into her palm, jealousy burning in her eyes. She bit down on her lip, then stepped forward to help Dennis up. Leaning in close, she whispered, “I don’t know what Charlotte did to Andrew, but she’s got him wrapped around her finger. He’s actually fighting you because of her.”
“Dennis, just drop it. With Andrew backing her up, you can’t win against Charlotte.”
Can’t win? Dennis couldn’t believe what he was hearing. In all of Vanguard High, there was no one he was afraid of, except maybe Andrew.
He let out a cold laugh and pushed himself to his feet, shooting a scornful look at Charlotte, who stood off to the side, her face unreadable. “Wow, Charlotte, you’re better at playing people than I thought.”
He turned to Andrew. “Do you even know what kind of person Charlotte really is? You’re just going to defend her like that?”
Parrish cut in before Andrew could answer, tossing his gum in the trash and giving Dennis a withering look. “Why do we need to hear anything about Charlotte from you? Andrew’s right. If you want to mess with someone from our class, you better be ready to deal with me too.”
The Ford family wasn’t quite as powerful as the Blairs, but they were still a big deal in Cabinda. And the Fords and Blairs had always been close. That alone was enough to make most people think twice before picking a fight with them.
First Andrew, now Parrish. The two most notorious troublemakers at Vanguard High were both stepping up for Charlotte.
“Isn’t Charlotte from the
countryside?” someone whispered in the crowd. “Maybe she knows some kind of witchcraft low else did she get those two on her side?
Dennis heard the rumors and smirked, his eyes cold. “Witchcraft? Maybe. But if you
ask me, it’s more likely she used her looks to get what she wanted.”
He grinned, his tone getting nastier. “She’s pretty, right? I heard she used that face and body to get ahead. just want to know… which one of

“Shut up!”
Andrew’s face darkened, and he grabbed a chair, swinging it at Dennis without hesitation.
That was all it took for Dennis to snap. He tore off his jacket, rolled up his sleeves, and lunged at Andrew.
The next second, the two of them were locked in a fight.
Parrish jumped in right away, landing a hard kick on Dennis.
Dennis barely had time to get up before Andrew and Parrish were on him, one
holding him back while the other threw punch after punch.
“Stop it!” Olivia shouted, her voice tight with fake concern. “Charlotte, this is all happening because of you. Aren’t you going to do something?”
She sounded like she was urging Charlotte to break up the fight, but everyone could
hear the real message. Olivia was pinning all the blame on Charlotte.
Sure, Dennis threw the first punch, but with his dad’s connections, he’d be fine. And Andrew and Parrish? Their backgrounds were even stronger. In the end, this mess was going to land right on Charlotte’s shoulders. She might not even get a chance to take her exams. She could be kicked out of Vanguard High
today.
“I’m getting a teacher,” Nancy said, shooting Charlotte a nasty, triumphant look
before dashing out.
This time, Charlotte was really in trouble.
