Shirley walked over, caught a glance at the phone, and nearly burst out laughing. She covered her mouth, whispering, “Whoa, someone’s got a secret admirer.”
Charlotte raised an eyebrow. This counted as a confession? The messages were so cringe, she almost rolled her eyes. No wonder Anthony had pulled her aside earlier, warning her not to let guys fool her. He must have seen these same texts last night. Was that why he’d been in such a mood? Honestly, Anthony could be such a drama queen sometimes.
Parrish leaned in, chin propped on his palm, grinning like he was in on some big joke. “Word’s out… I heard a couple of them are actually pretty cute. You thinking about-”
He didn’t get to finish. Charlotte shot him a steely glare, her eyes icy enough to shut him up on the spot. Did these people seriously think anyone in this school was a match for her?
If Parrish thought about it, Andrew was the most important guy at Vanguard High, but even Andrew seemed to lose his edge when Charlotte was around. No one here could measure up to her. Not even close.
Just then, Andrew stood up, scanning the classroom with a look that could freeze anyone in their seat. “Let everyone know. If anyone sends Charlotte another one of those stupid messages, I’ll make sure they regret it.”
The room went silent. Was Andrew really into Charlotte? He never got involved in other people’s business, but he’d stood up for her more than once. It had to mean something.
By the end of the day, rumors about Andrew crushing on Charlotte were everywhere. Having Andrew’s attention was like getting a golden ticket to the upper class, a shortcut into the world of the rich and famous. And yet, that honor had somehow landed on Charlotte, who didn’t even seem to care.
In Class A, Nancy leaned close to Olivia, her voice barely above a whisper. “I heard Charlotte’s ignoring everyone else because of Andrew. Some of those guys are supposed to be really handsome, and loaded, too.”
“Is Andrew crazy? Charlotte’s not even in your league,” Nancy continued quietly. “Why would he ever choose her?”
Olivia’s hand froze mid-scribble, her lips curling into a cold smirk. “The Blair family would never let her in.”
Her tone left no room for doubt.
“Why not?” Nancy pressed, eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Olivia focused on the piano sheet in front of her, her smile turning sharper. Because Charlotte wasn’t clean anymore. The Blair family would never decept someone like Mer as a daughter-in-law. Without the Main family behind her, Charlotte was a nobody. Thinking she could marry up was just wishful thinking.
Olivia was different, though. She was sure that once she won the piano competition on Monday and became Laura’s student, everyone in those elite circles would know her name. Compared to her, Charlotte didn’t stand a chance.
After Saturday morning’s classes, everyone was free for the afternoon. Charlotte packed up, her pale, slender hand draped lazily over her chai phone pressed to her ear as she listened to Robert.
“Lottie, buy whatever you need. Don’t try to save me money.”
Charlotte’s reply was polite. “I really don’t need anything.”
Jewelry felt tacky to her, and designer brands just weren’t her style.
