Chapter 335
Olivia’s breathing got shallower, panic finally flickering in her eyes.
Right then, Charlotte’s phone went off. She pulled it from her pocket, glanced at the screen, and just like that, all the fury in her face faded away. She pressed her lips together, loosened her grip, and leaned down until her voice was just above a whisper.
“You should be grateful my hands are still clean right now. Otherwise Her words hung in the air.
Clean hands? Olivia shivered, her whole body tense.
Charlotte let go and shoved Olivia aside like she was something dirty. Olivia crashed to the floor, coughing so hard her whole frame shook. Charlotte just stood there, a lazy smirk tugging at her mouth. “Just wait. We’re not done here.”
By the time Olivia managed to catch her breath, Charlotte was already gone.
The memory of that look on Charlotte’s face made Olivia’s skin crawl. She knew she hadn’t imagined it. Charlotte had really wanted to kill her. She would have done it, right there at school…
Olivia’s fingers brushed her burning, swollen neck as a strange thought crossed her mind. Maybe Charlotte’s “mental illness” had kicked in. No normal person would do something so terrifying.
Back in Class C, the teachers did everything they could to keep things quiet. Nobody wanted more drama, so talk about the “leaked exam” and rumors of “cheating” just faded away. All the students knew was that Charlotte had been cleared, and her grades were real.
Now, when people looked at her, it was with pure respect, almost like they were in awe. Charlotte didn’t seem to care, though. She was flat-out asleep on her desk, as usual, even after scoring first in the entire country.
“I wish I knew what she dreams about. Maybe that’s her secret to being number one.”
“Which major do you think she’ll pick at The Cabinda University?”
“She got perfect scores in everything except literature. She could major in anything she wants.”
“I heard the admissions officers are already here. Man, I wish I were Charlotte. She doesn’t even have to sit for the entrance exams.”
Shirley listened to the excited
chatter, propping her chin in her hand. She reached over and gently poked Charlotte arm. Her voice was soft, careful. “Charlotte, have you picked a major yet?”
“Nope.”
Charlotte finally lifted her head, grabbing a few snacks Anthony had stashed for her. She tossed a bag each to Andrew, Parrish, and Shirley.
“Thanks, Charlotte,” Shirley said, her voice barely above a whisper. She didn’t know the brand, but the snacks looked amazing.
“Can Anthony be any more obvious
with his favorites?” Andrew
grumbled, recognizing the
packaging right away One of those little bags would cost him a month’s allowance.
“Charlotte, why don’t you major in the same thing as me? Come study physics.”
“No way,” Charlotte replied, sounding bored as she leaned back and stared out the
window. Her eyes were distant. “Eric never shuts up. He’s so noisy.”
While everyone else worried about what major Charlotte would pick, Eleanor strolled into the classroom.
“Charlotte, Shirley, come to my office for a bit.”
The admissions people must have arrived.
“Okay!” Shirley jumped up, practically bouncing with excitement. When she saw Charlotte still slouched at her desk, she blinked “Charlotte, the admissions team is here Aren’t you excited?”
Charlotte got to her feet, her eyes downcast, looking like she could fall asleep standing up. “They’re the ones who should be excited to see me.”
Shirley stared at her, a little stunned. But she guessed it made sense. With grades like Charlotte’s, universities probably would be fighting over her.
