Jackson grabbed the handle without a word, doing his best to brace himself.
Adonis waved her concern away. “Relax, Charlotte. It’s nothing.” He’d driven roads like this plenty of times before. With his driving skills, a mountain road really wasn’t a big deal.
Charlotte shot him a look, a sly smile curling at her lips. She fastened her seatbelt, then pressed the gas pedal all the way down.

The wind howled past as the car tore along the twisting mountain road. Inside, the only thing louder than the engine was the screaming.
Thirty minutes later, the car rolled to a stop in front of the manor.
Jackson sat in the passenger seat, completely still, his face ghostly pale. He looked like he’d just come back from the dead.

Adonis didn’t hesitate. He flung open the door and stumbled out, making a beeline for the nearest trash can as he started retching.
Charlotte unbuckled her seatbelt and climbed out, stretching her legs. She nudged Adonis with her foot, looking down at him with zero sympathy. “Seriously? This little mountain road has you puking? Stop bragging about your driving. You’re just embarrassing yourself.”

Adonis couldn’t even get the words out. His stomach was still in knots. What did she mean, “this little mountain road”? She’d managed to turn a two-hour drive into thirty minutes. The whole way, it felt like the car was flying.
He’d need a lifetime to recover from that half hour.
“Let’s go,” Charlotte said, clearly annoyed. She pulled her cap a little lower and strode into the manor without looking back.
Back at the manor, Charlotte remembered the strange scent she’d picked up at the Netherworld Casino. She quickly figured out what was in the gas. One of the
chemicals, something called H1C20, was the main reason the patient had slipped into a coma and suffered heart failure.
Now that she knew what she was dealing with, the treatment was simple.
“I’ll need two hours,” Charlotte said
as she set her bag down. She slipped on a pair of sterile gloves, her eyes sharp and focused as sh looked at the manor’s owner. “I need one nurse to stay. Everyone else, leave the room.”
“I’ll do it,” a young nurse piped up, before the owner could say anything. She stepped forward, her cheeks a little pink. “Asclepius, ve
been caring for Patton. I know his case the best.”
Charlotte glanced at her. It was the same girl who’d handed her things earlier.
“She can stay,” Charlotte said, her voice calm. She pulled out a fresh syringe and started mixing the medication.

The nurse stood quietly by Charlotte’s side, sneaking glances at her whenever she handed something over. Every time, her cheeks got a little redder.
She couldn’t help but think, His eyelashes are so long, and his eyes are so bright. And he just has this presence. So cool. If only I could see what he looks like under the mask.
Two hours passed. Charlotte gave the final shot and checked the patient’s heart and eyes. The heart rate was back to normal, and the redness in his eyes had faded.
The medicine had done its job. He was out of danger.
“Let them in,” Charlotte said as she pulled off her gloves and wiped her hands clean.
“Yes, doctor.” The nurse set the medicine aside, gathered her courage, and looked up at Charlotte with a shy smile. “Asclepius, you’re incredible.”
She blushed even harder, then hurried out, her head down.
Charlotte paused for a second, watching her go. She frowned a little, puzzled. What is up with that girl?
