“Turn the heat on.” Anthony slid his hand behind Charlotte’s head, adjusting her so she could relax more comfortably. His voice was low and steady as he told the driver, “Drive carefully.”
“Yes, sir.”
Hans risked a quick look back at Anthony, who was holding Charlotte like she was the most precious thing in the world. Hans’ palms were sweating now, the tension thick in the air.
Half an hour later, their black car rolled to a stop in front of the lab.
Charlotte stepped out, ready to go, but Anthony caught her wrist before she could walk away. “Do you want me to come with you?” he asked quietly.

“Bitch,” Melissa spat, her jaw clenched tight. She grabbed her phone and dialed her
hacker. “Get every single story about me off the internet. Right now.”
“I’m sorry, Ms. Carter,” the hacker said, sounding more miserable than before. “My system crashed not long ago and my accounts were hacked I still can’t recover my main tools. Ms. Carter, Charlotte isn’t someone you want to mess with. My advice is to apologize before things get even worse.”
