Chapter 508
“Damn it! Who’s the idiot crashing into us?”
Adonis jerked the steering wheel, tires screeching against the pavement. He glanced in the mirror, brow tight with worry. “Charlotte, are you alright?”
Charlotte leaned back, her eyes dark and stormy. There was a dangerous look on her face, cold and restless, like she was barely holding herself back.
Before she could answer, the car chasing them suddenly spun around and came at them again.
“Charlotte, hang on!” Jackson shouted. He could tell right away something was seriously wrong. He reached over, helping Adonis steady the wheel.
They’d just gotten off the highway, and the street was packed with cars and people. Out of nowhere, their SUV got slammed from behind again, and they lost control, swerving straight toward a crowded sidewalk.
“Adonis, brake!” Jackson yelled. He spotted a little boy ahead, standing frozen in their path, a lollipop dangling from his hand and confusion on his face.
Slamming the brakes might set the car on fire, but hitting a kid wasn’t even an option.
“On it!” Adonis stomped on the pedal again and again, but nothing happened.
The brakes were gone.
Chaos broke out as people scattered, but the boy just stood there, too shocked to move. No one was close enough or brave enough to run in and grab him.
While Adonis and Jackson fought the useless brakes, they suddenly heard a car door open behind them. Before they could react, someone shot past, grabbing the door frame and swinging up. In a heartbeat, Charlotte was on the roof.
“Charlotte!” Jackson’s face drained of color as he realized what she was about to
do.
She was going to jump.
At this speed, one wrong move and she’d go straight under the wheels. But
Charlotte didn’t hesitate. She launched herself off the roof, aiming straight for the boy.
Just as she wrapped her arms around him, cradling him tight, the SUV slammed into the guardrail with a thunderous crash.
“Charlotte
Adonis saw her rolling across the ground with the kid in her arms. His eyes narrowed, burning with anger. “Go check on her!” he shapped at Jackson handle the assholes behind this.”
Jackson didn’t waste a second. He flew out the door, running hard toward Charlotte, his expression grim.
Adonis spun the battered SUV around and took off after the car that had attacked them, jaw set.
“Charlotte are you okay?” Jackson
reached her, breathless. She was
crouched on the ground, a nasty
scrape on her left hand blood trickling down her wrist.
He couldn’t even imagine how Anthony would react when he found out Charlotte was hurt.
Just then, the little boy in Charlotte’s arms started sobbing, finally realizing what had just happened.
“I’m fine,” Charlotte said quietly, barely glancing at her bleeding hand. She lifted the boy, turning to see a woman running toward them.
“Is this your son?” Her voice was calm, but her eyes narrowed as she looked at the woman.
“Yes!” The woman scooped the boy into her arms, her hands shaking. “Thank you, thank you so much
It was their car that lost control, but she knew she should’ve been watching her son more closely.
“No need to thank me,” Charlotte
said, her voice gentle as she wiped
away some of the boy’s tears. “He’s scared and took a tumble. It’s best to get him checked out at the Hospital, just to be safe
“Mommy… waaah The boy clung to his mother, his face pale and streaked with tears.
The woman nodded, wiping his cheeks. “I will, thank you
“How’s Adonis?” Charlotte asked, pressing her hand to her wound, her brow
furrowed as she looked back toward the street.
