Too bad she couldn’t move her hands at all. No matter how talented she was, it didn’t make a difference now.

Across the city, the leaders of Kingswood University sat with the students from the Department of Traditional Medicine, all of them watching the live stream with tense faces.
“Charlotte’s hand got hurt at the worst possible time,” one of the traditional medicine students whispered. “If not for that, she could have made it into the top three.”
But now, with both her hands out of commission, the top three was a distant dream. Honestly, they were just hoping she wouldn’t get a zero.
“It’s alright,” Glenn said, overhearing them. He looked serious but spoke calmly. “Just making it to the finals is a huge accomplishment. She’s still young. She’ll have plenty more chances.”
Molly smiled gently. “Charlotte’s already made us proud, just by standing on the international stage. The result doesn’t matter. Let’s try not to put too much pressure on her.”
She truly believed that even if Charlotte lost this time, one day the medical world would know her name.
In a quiet corner of the venue, Andrew and Parrish had snuck in with Shirley and Stella. They huddled together, eyes fixed on the screen.
Andrew frowned and spoke in a low voice. “How did Charlotte hurt her hands?”
“I heard the final round includes a hands-on exam. If her hands are both injured, how’s she supposed to do surgery?” Shirley asked, her worry clear on her face. Then she caught sight of Letty nearby and puffed up with anger. “What’s with Letty’s face? Is she mocking Charlotte?”
“She’s not going to win,” Stella said, staring straight at Letty. Her eyes were icy, but her voice was steady and gentle.
“Who’s not going to win?” Andrew, Parrish, and Shirley all turned toward her.
“Letty,” Stella said, her lips pressed together. “She can’t beat Charlotte. Even if she worked three lifetimes and grew ten more hands, she wouldn’t match a single finger of Charlotte’s.”
No sooner had she finished speaking than a gasp ran through the crowd.
“Charlotte’s picking up her pen!”
The students in the back rows jumped up, all eyes glued to the screen.
On the video, Charlotte rested her bandaged right hand on the desk, picked up a pen, and started making marks on the test paper.
“She’s having a hard time writing,” Molly said softly, worry in her voice. “Her left hand looks pretty banged up too. It must hurt so much. When it comes to the practical, I’m worried she won’t stand a chance,”
The others nodded, their faces full of sympathy as they watched Charlotte.
Letty saw Charlotte pick up the pen and couldn’t help but smirk. Was this just a last- ditch effort?
Anyone could act tough during a written test. The practical, though, left no room for
error.
When the time came, being able to hold a pen wouldn’t matter. Would she even be able to hold a scalpel?
The written exam finally ended.

After handing in their tests, the five contestants moved to the next room a laboratory lined with high-definition cameras, streaming every move they made.
Out of all the rounds, the hands-on surgery was by far the hardest.
Every tiny mistake would be caught by the cameras, blown up for everyone to see.
So when Charlotte didn’t drop out and actually walked into the lab, a lot of people looked shocked.
“Anybody can scribble something down for the written part, but a practical surgery… Even with two good hands, it’s easy to mess up.”
“With her hands looking like that, how could she possibly do it?”
