Chapter 49

LEAH  I move back slowly, keeping my eyes focused on the men until they are in front of me.  Tala was close, and I somehow knew she was watching. “I’m going to have to fight, aren’t I?” I muttered.  Tala said nothing, but the silence was deafening. I needed to get into the house, but I had to get rid of the men first. How?  “Come on, princess,” one man said, staring at me. His eyes changed to yellow and then back again. “Let’s not do this dance. Come with us. We won’t hurt you. We just want to play.”  The other two men chuckled at his response, sending another shiver to ripple through me.  “Why are you here?” I asked.  All three men look at each other and grin. “We are passing through, princess,” the other side. “We caught hold of your sweet scent.” The man sniffed and growled.  “Enough playing games,” the third man said. “We need to get her.”  I step back and stare at the men.  “Tala, they seem to know who I am,” I said. “Or am I imagining it?”  “Nope,” she growled. “Their wolves are talking too much to get a read on what they are truly after.”  That wasn’t promising.  One man stepped closer and grinned. “Mine,” he growled and lunged at me. I moved back and out of the way, making the man skid slightly. I move and run, but he wraps his arms around my waist and groans.  “HEY!” someone shouts, making me look to the side.  There was a man standing with a frown. I stare at him. Why the hell does he look familiar to me?  The other two rogues turn to face him and growled. “Who are you?” one growled. “You were not supposed to be here.”  The man cocked his head to the side and looked at me. His eyes widened. “Leah,” he whispered.  “Tala,” I mumbled. “Who is—”  “He’s the man who came with your mum to collect you,” she said. “I think he may be family. His scent is like mums.”  I said nothing as anger rippled through me. I wouldn’t be in this mess if it wasn’t because of this man and my mum. Since my mum wasn’t here, my anger was aimed at him.  “Get lost,” the other growled.  The one who held me placed his face into my hair and sniffed. My stomach twisted. He pulls back and growls. “Definitely mine,” he muttered.  My anger spilled over. I was no ones, not his at least.  I lift my foot up and slam it down on his foot, causing him to let me with a grunt. I turned around and punched the man in the face. “I’m no ones,” I growled, making the man clutch at his nose. “Fucking stupid human.” 1 My eyes stay on him, Tala growls. “I’ll show him what humans can do,” she murmured. I felt my body shift slightly. Tala’s presence was more prominent with me. “We can fight together,” she whispered.  I let her take what she needed and watched Tala take on the man before us. I looked on while she punched him hard a few times until the man stumbled back and fell on his back. Tala moves and straddles him, striking what she could on the man. His groans pierced our ears with every hit Tala made to him.  Wondering what the hell was going on with the other ones, Tala and I looked over only to see the man fight the others. He growled and fought, taking on the two when they lunged at him.  “Stupid bitch,” the man growled, making us look back at him. We leaned forward and Tala pushed me back slightly, taking over my body. The man’s eyes widened. “How?” he mumbled lowly.  Tala moved closer to him. “Something you will never know,” she muttered close. I feel what she is doing. The man was carrying a knife. Why would he need a knife if he was a wolf?  “To kill you,” Tala whispered, but we kept our eyes on the man on the ground under us.  Tala pulls back and growls. “Stupid rogue,” she muttered, moving my hand to his throat with the knife pressed against it. I looked at what she was doing and my eyes widened when she sliced the man’s throat open, side to side. She pulled back, blood gushing from the gaping wound. The man tries to grab his neck, but Tala growls. “Nope.” She pins his hand down and watches as the man takes his last breath.  We just killed a man.  “No, Leah,” she whispered, getting off him. “He was a bad wolf who was going to kill you.”  I felt Tala push me forward till I felt more in control of my body. It was a weird feeling. Looking at my hand, which was covered in blood and was still holding a knife, I dropped it. I open my mouth but close it when we hear a whimper. I look over to see the man on top of the one rogue and watch his hand swipe over his throat.  I glanced around to see where the other man had gone, but my eyes landed on another body not too far from the one he just killed.  The man moved from the dead man and sighed. He moved slowly and looked over at me. His eyes widened. “How did you—” he muttered.  “Knife,” I said, pointing to the knife on the ground near my foot.  The man looked at me and said nothing. He moved toward me. All I could do was keep my eyes on him till he stopped mere inches from me. “Hello niece,” he said. “Care to explain why you are here?”  I stared at him. My anger was still there toward the man for what he did and how he acted at my father’s funeral.  “Well,” he said.  My eyes moved behind him and scanned around. “We need to get rid of them,” I muttered, looking back at him. “People will ask questions.”  The man stared at me for a moment but glanced around too. He let out a sigh and groaned. “Not what I had in mind for my last night,” he muttered.  I said nothing.  The man looked back at me. “I’ll sort this out,” he said, motioning to the dead bodies on the ground. “You go inside. The house is open.”  The man turned and walked away. I knew he called me niece, which meant that he was my uncle. But there was no way I would be nice to the man. He was an asshole the last time I saw him.  Turning around, I headed toward the door and headed inside, but stopped when I appeared in front of my lounge area. But it wasn’t there. All the furniture was gone. There was nothing. Nothing that would remind me of my father. No memories. It looked like an abandoned home.  “He must have done it,” Tala whispered, but I said nothing. I moved further into the empty home. There were so many memories here that should be shown on the walls. From drawings I did as a child to photographs of us in our happy times.  A lone tear escaped.  Walking slowly, I walked over to the window and looked out. There were no bodies.  “How did he move them so fast?” I muttered.  “Werewolves are strong,” Tala said with a sigh. “He knows there are too many humans around to take his time.”  I said nothing and watched him appear. His eyes were on the house, but he seemed far away.  “He’s mind linking someone,” Tala whispered, which only made me frown.  “Mind link,” I muttered. “What the hell is that?”  “It’s communication for wolves,” she said. “They can speak telepathically to one another, especially when they are in a pack.”  Wow!  “So, if I joined a pack, I could do it too,” I asked, making her laugh. “Yeah, you will be able to.”  I felt Tala open her mouth to say something but closed it when the front door opened again.  Anger swirled inside me.  Turning around, I looked at the man and stared.  “So, I think I—” he said, but I moved fast and clenched my hand into a fist. I pull back and punch my uncle in the jaw, making him jerk back slightly. I watched him. His hand went to his mouth, and looked at me with wide eyes.  “Care to explain why rogues are after me?” I asked, my eyes boring back at him.  Tala giggled in my head.  His eyes widened. “How do you—”  “Funny that,” I gritted. “I have been chased and followed from where you sent me.” I moved closer to him till I stood mere inches away from his face. “Oh, that punch was for taking me away from my friends and making me leave not long after I buried my father.”  My uncle opened his mouth but closed it. He seemed to be at a loss for words, which I admit was shocking since he had loads to say when I saw him last.
