Chapter 58

UNKNOWN 1 Rogues roamed over the part of the field, hiding in plain sight. We had to move soon; it was only a matter of time before the pack would leave to look for us.  Since we escaped with them, it made it more unreal that we were part of them. But this is how it was. After what happened to my son those years ago, I couldn’t let it slip—something had to be done.  Alpha Carson needed to be stopped, and I would do it all with the help of the rogues I found. We had planned everything, even the last scream. There was no way I was going to let him get away with killing my son.  “Otto,” Paul called out, making me look over my shoulder toward him.  The man has been my friend for years, ever since we were in school, and he has never been the same since his daughter went off with a human. She had to fall in love and even have a child with that pathetic man. Something that never should have happened. It was against everything we sat for.  Shaking my thoughts away, I watched my friend walk up to me and let out a sigh. “What now?” he asked, glancing around the field. The stench was off-putting, but we knew what we were dealing with.  “Now we regroup with the rogues and attack again soon,” I said, making me look back at me with a hard look.  “We can’t,” he gritted. “We don’t know what the state of the pack is. Ever since we left, I have lost all connections with them.”  “So have I,” I muttered, scanning around, making sure no one could hear us, and then looking back at him with a frown. “We knew what would happen,” I said, stepping closer and making sure my voice was lower for no one to hear. “We know what’s at stake.”  Paul’s face stayed hard, and his lips pressed into a thin line. “I know,” he muttered. “But now we have no way of knowing if they killed her or Alpha Carson.”  I stared at my old friend, but the corners of my lips curled up slightly into a smirk.  “I sent some men to follow that little brat,” I said, standing tall, which also got his attention. “The human won’t be a problem. Once she dies, Alpha Carson will be too heartbroken to register when we will attack next. Once we know her fate, we can move on.”  “And what if she isn’t dead?” he growled. “We did all this for nothing, and we haven’t got a pack to go to. No one will take us in now, not even close packs when Carson spreads the word.”  I chuckled.  “You think he would do that?” I muttered. “He wouldn’t know what the hell is happening until it is too late.”  Paul looked unconvinced, but I knew what that pathetic alpha was like. Every alpha is the same, they want their mate and know who she is, thanks to that lovely mate of Paul’s and a lot of eavesdropping moments from others, we learned that human girl that his daughter brought back was his mate it made sense to include my old friend in on my plans.  I knew how much he despised her and her human father. It was clearer that he didn’t favour humans as equals, like the new generation did. Many only liked them because they were easy to bed.  Looking at my friend, I sighed, but before I could tell him to look after his mate, our savior walked over to us with a huge grin. “It seems that little human boarded a bus to another town,” he called out but stopped when he came closer. His eyes roamed over the other rogues and then back at us with a grin. “All I need to know is where she is heading, and I can have someone kill her.”  I stared at him but looked over at Paul.  “She must be heading back to her hometown,” he said, glancing at me. “New Bridge. You know it?”  Looking back at the rogue, his grin widened, and he laughed.  “Oh, I know it,” he said. “I know who exactly to send.”  I knew working with him would be the best option.  My eyes moved back to Paul, who was now grinning.  “Great,” he said, grinning. “The sooner that human is dead, the better my family will be.”  I said nothing, but Paul looked at me and smiled. “I’m going back to my mate,” he said, turning on his heel and walking away.  The rogue stepped closer and sighed.  “Fool of a man,” he growled. “You didn’t have to save him. He is delusional to believe his daughter will take him back after this.”  I knew that, but there was something that Alpha Carson’s father stilled in us about humans. They were horrible creatures. They hunt and kill our kind if they have a chance. Well, most of the old generation believe that, including Paul. I don’t. Some humans can be decent, but in past years, hunters were the toast of the frustration of the alpha back then. 1 Rogues and hunters were our threats, and most that lived in that pack didn’t forget until old age and the new times set in. We all had to follow Alpha Carson’s rules, which made it hard even to think whether we should. Some of my old friends changed with him, others were stuck like me, and a little portion of us left, not wanting to be part of the pack because of it.  I would have left, but I held everything dear there and memories. But everything stopped when I saw alpha Carson living his life and burying my son next to his mother, and my grief transformed into pure rage.  “What do we do when the girl is killed?” the rogue asked, pulling me from my thoughts. I looked over at him and frowned. “We see,” I said, glancing back to where Paul went. “We see what he does. If he wants to return to the pack, we kill him.”  The rogue chuckled.  “You would kill your friend,” he said, calming down. “After saving him. That is even harsh, even by my standards.”  My eyes darted back to his and glared at him. “I will kill whoever doesn’t believe in the cause we are doing,” I said. “Call your contact and tell him to kill her, and if anyone is with her, them too.”  The rogue nodded while a grin formed. He turned away and headed back to the camp. I knew I had to wait for a moment and breathe, but breathing became easier when Alpha Carson’s head was on a spike.
