Chapter 90

LEAH  I don’t know how long I have been sitting here in my room on the floor but all I have done is read most of the letters from my father.  Tears had coated my cheeks every time I read what my father had been through and what his feelings were on the entire matter of what my mother did. Each letter was dated and it was like a diary sample of what he was feeling that day.  Most were how much he missed mum and how he would have loved to have never learned about her kind, or ways of life. Until I read the last letter, which is still in my hand. Something I never thought of since my father kept a lot from me.  To my precious Leah,  Another letter and another one to add to the ongoing pile. I know I have talked about the past with your mother a lot and in all these letters but there has been a new development. I met her mate earlier in the cafe.  My eyes had moved from the letter and away to the door to think, while Tala was close to the surface in shock. Dad had met Josh, but Josh never said he had even met him.  Not wanting to overthink things my eyes darted back to the letter and began reading the rest of the letter.  He came to me. Met me at a cafe but he still has no clue about you. I didn’t want him to know about you. Too afraid he would take you away from me.  The man’s name is Josh and he seems nice. Well, more like someone who can be the one your mother can spend her life with. He apologised to me about what happened and told me he didn’t know your mother was in a relationship.  I never thought I would have respect for a man who stole my love, but he explained more and in depth about the mate bond he and your mother had. It sounds all too well and good. A soulmate that was made just for them, something to do with their moon goddess. Your mother never mentioned about her before, all I had was she was destined to be with someone before, but Josh explained more.  While he was talking, my eyes went to you where you were. You were with your friends at the ice cream place across the way and I wondered if you would have a mate. You are part of your mother but whether you have a wolf or not, it makes me wonder if it will affect you. Only time and years will tell.  Now I know you may want to know more about the man your mum had left us, but I wouldn’t bore you with the details since he would never be part of your life.  I will write again soon, as you know I am waiting to hear about the new job offer that was handed to me yesterday and I have everything crossed.  Love you, lovebug.  Those words, ‘he will never be part of your life’ had been echoing around my head. If only my father would predict what would happen to him and me. The crash and me being forced to move back with mum, and her family, her pack.  Josh and I may be on good terms. Something about the fact he went to see my father makes me wonder if he was trying to probe for some details. And that’s what I will be asking him when he gets here.  “Maybe he would tell us himself,” Tala murmured, wondering the same thing but I said nothing.  Tala often spoke about things my father said in the letters, but I never responded. Every time I read them, it is like a touch of him is back with me. I can even hear his voice when I read them. Every word echoes around inside my head, like he is reading them back to me.  “That’s your memory,” Tala whispered softly. “Your brain is making sure you never forget him and trust me when I say this, Leah, you never will. He will be with you always.”  A lone tear escapes at her words, but I move the letter into the pile and grab another one. Pulling it back out of the envelope and I open it to read his next words to me. I kept reading till I get to a few lines down when something changes in what he says to me.  Dad had gotten the job and even made loads of new friends. But the letters jump a few months later, which makes me wonder what the hell happened in between them.  The first lot of the letters were about things we did together, his ways of getting me out of my head and away from missing mum. Those ones hurt the most since I always remember the sinking feelings I had of her absence, but this next letter took my breath away, especially when he tells me more about wolves.  My lovebug,  The job is still going great, but something happened which has made me question if I am destined to be around people who want to kill me.  That part had my heart racing like a speedboat on the sea. What the hell did mean by that?  As you know I have been working for three days a week for the last few months since I got the call about this job and its more money than sense, which is what we need. But what no one told me was it was funded by wolves.  You got me right, wolves. The same kind as your mother but these ones are more dangerous. One in particular is friendly and has been helping me, but there are others who seem to have it out for me. It is the way they look at me that freaks me out.  Over the last few weeks, I have kept them from you and even made sure they don’t know nothing about you till one mentioned how you were… Alarm bells went off in my head. Leah, I haven’t said anything about you only that you were living away. Because during this time, you were staying over Lucy and Dani’s house, which I am thankful for.  My new friend is helping me but something about all this is not making a lot of sense.  I must leave.  Dad.  The rush to leave the letter made me wonder something more was happening. Did those wolves come to see him when I wasn’t there? I was always over Lucy’s house and more when he took that job. Dani hated that I was left alone and often made sure I was with her when those nights began.  Placing the letter into the envelope, I didn’t know if I had time to read another since I was only halfway through them. I had to stop a few times to cry. His words and memories were sometimes too much to think about.  Grabbing the next one, I opened the next one which made my stomach twist into knots at his words, which made me wonder if this was all planned.  Leah,  This letter may be short, but I have to put it in this pile, you need to know what I just learned and none of it is good.  It seems your mother’s parents have found out about you. Leah, they don’t want you alive. They have used the people I work with to find out about you.  Angry tears came now. Tears at the thought of the people who were supposed to be family came. Memories about the meal I had with them before all this started.  Tala growled. “You don’t need to carry on reading this letter, Leah. Not if it is going to bring you pain.”  I knew that would be the case, but I also knew I had to.  Ignoring Tala’s words, I carried on and it only got worse.  Leah, these people are crazy. I overheard things yesterday that I shouldn’t. Maybe I was wrong, but you never know with people like these.  I know this is short sweetheart, but I need to know more before I can continue. So, I have no idea of when I will write again next, so bear with me.  I love you sweet girl.  Your dad  More tears came which made me angrier. It seemed to make my emotions heightened.  Tala growled, wanting out.  Closing my eyes, I took deep breaths to breathe and to calm Tala and me down. Ease came when she started to do the same thing with me till we had our emotions under control.  That was when I heard footsteps coming and as soon as I opened my eyes, the door opened and there stood Josh, his eyes finding me and then concern filled his features. “Leah, what’s wrong?”
