Annie hit the floor hard.
Rupert heard the noise from outside the bathroom and panicked. “Annabel, are you okay?” he shouted anxiously.
Rupert tried to enter the ladies’ room, but the door was locked.
“Annabel? Are you in there? What happened?” Rupert’s voice was deep with emotion.
No one answered. Worried about Annabel’s safety, Rupert threw himself against the door until it burst open.
The moment he stepped inside, he noticed two injured men on the floor. With her arms crossed over her chest, Annabel was looking down at Annie, who was lying on the tiles.
“Annabel, what happened?” Rupert asked, baffled, as he strode toward her. He had thought Annabel would be hurt, but it seemed she had managed to defend herself just fine.
“Oh, nothing,” Annabel said lightly as she turned to face him.
“What happened to your neck?” Rupert asked, staring at the red mark that Annie’s knife had made.
The mark was thin. Only someone looking very carefully would notice it. Annabel hadn’t even realized it was there until Rupert mentioned it. Once she knew, it began to sting.

“Let me take you to the hospital,” Rupert offered, feeling sorry for her.
“No, it’s just a little scrape. It’ll heal in a few days.” Annabel rubbed her forehead, attempting to clear her thoughts.
Wasn’t Rupert at the auction? Why was he suddenly here?
“Best to be safe. Let me take you,” Rupert said, his gaze still fixed on Annabel’s neck.
Despite her assurances, he was still worried.
Heather entered the ladies’ room and took in the scene.
Knowing that Annabel would attend tonight’s charity auction, she had arranged for Annie to ambush her in the bathroom. She had also hired two strong men to kidnap Annabel as insurance.
But all three of them had proven useless. They were on the floor, and Annabel was still standing.
Heather glared at Annie, who looked utterly pathetic. Even with a huge advantage, she couldn’t get the better of Annabel.
Annie stared at Annabel, brimming with hate. Surprising everyone, she suddenly grabbed the knife, stood up, and lunged at Annabel, aiming for her heart with all her strength.
