Chapter : 204
Ariel was caught off guard by Jayson’s comment and froze
She looked coldly at Jayson, noticing that there was a sharp edge behind his relaxed gaze.
“You’re all grown up and still can’t take care of yourself?” toyson looked at her with a faint smile.
His words sounded strange, like concern but not quite, with a hint of mockery.
Ariel didn’t bother guessing what he was thinking.
“I don’t need your concern,” she said as she turned to leave
But then she suddenly remembered the broken laptop she’d left in her study–the one she’d never gotten around to fixing. She had left it there and completely forgotten about it.
She asked, “Can I go get something?”
Jayson was already at the kitchen island pouring water, “What?”
“My laptop.”
Only then did Jayson pause, seemingly recalling something, “I think it was thrown out.”
Ariel’s expression darkened slightly. “That was mine.”
“Want me to have someone find it for you?” Jayson raised an eyebrow as he watched her face turn stubborn.
She couldn’t tell if he was
joking or serious, but she felt a trace of disdain.
He had just bought the marital home back and had already tossed her things out? He didn’t want to keep any of her stuff at all.
She rarely used the laptop. Though its hard drive didn’t hold much important Information, she still felt Jayson’s handling of it without asking was improper.
She pressed her lips together, her tension easing. “Forget I’ll leave now.”
“It’s late. I’ll drive you home.” Jayson maintained his usual gentlemanly manner.
Ariel glanced at the time and didn’t look back. “No need. I’ll go myself.”
But Jayson had already draped on a coat and approached. He looked at Ariel, asking for the car keys.
Ariel opened her mouth to refuse.
Before she could, Jayson’s phone buzzed. He immediately checked it. After seeing the message, he smiled faintly.
He hesitated a–moment, then looked at Ariel and turned off his screen.
Suddenly, he asked, “You really don’t want me to?”
Ariel picked up on something right away. She turned calmly and opened the door. “Yes.”
Ignoring whatever was going on with Jayson, she got into her car and left.
She truly didn’t want him to drive her. But she wasn’t blind to his expression just now.
He had meant to offer, but that sudden question afterward made it obvious that some “unexpected situation” had come up, and he was hoping she would back out on her own
However, that was none of her business anymore..
The next day, after arriving at Baye Technologies, Ariel finalized the working plan with Nexura Solutions alongside Chad and the team.
But just as the meeting ended, Lucas called.
Ariel looked at the familiar number and promptly rejected the call without any expression.
Lucas was likely surprised she didn’t answer. He called repeatedly, but Ariel cut every call off.
She had a good idea why Lucas was calling. He had probably found out that Faye Technologies had chosen Nexura Solutions as their manufacturer and came to ask her about it.
Lucas might have assumed Ariel would favor him over Jayson
But she wasn’t choosing between the two of them. She picked the best option based on the project itself.
Janice noticed the calls Ariel was getting. She walked over with a cup of coffee, glanced at the screen, and gave a thumbs–up. “I thought you’d block him.”
Ariel shook her head. “There’s no need for that.”
Relationships between people weren’t always black and white. There was more than just good or bad.
Especially with Lucas, there wasn’t any unforgivable grudge between them. It was true he had treated her well, and it was just as true that they had made different choices in life.
