Joshua hadn’t slept all night, the pain in his tongue a constant torment. When he realized Marguerite hadn’t come to the hospital that morning, his frustration grew.
Hannah, with her arm in a sling, was doing her best to take care of him. When she asked what had happened, Joshua had typed on his phone that he’d gotten into an argument with his director while trying to get time off to be with her and had accidentally bitten his tongue. Hannah was deeply moved.
Later, when Joshua stepped out for some fresh air, he was thrilled to see Marguerite back in the other suite. His tongue was feeling a bit better today, though still sore. He cursed Aaron under his breath.
He’d had a lot of time to think last night. Marguerite was even more stubborn and vengeful than he remembered. Getting her to back down was nearly impossible. But then again, she had been the most dazzling girl at Pinecrest High, the top student of their year. In Northpine’s elite circles, academic achievement was highly respected. His own mother, who had initially disapproved of his feelings for Marguerite, had changed her tune the moment she heard about her grades.
So, if he wanted to get her back, he would have to be persistent, just like when he’d first pursued her. She had loved him once; it should be easier this time around.
Her brothers, however, were a problem. He couldn’t afford to make enemies of them. Theobald and Simon were too powerful and wealthy to mess with.
But Aaron was different. He was just a brute who only knew how to use his fists a low life from the slums little kindness and flattery, and he would surely come over to his side. With his help, his chances of success would be much higher.

That afternoon, Marguerite decided not to send Aaron back to school. She figured she could tutor him herself. They could sort out the transfer once a new principal was appointed. She spent the afternoon in the hospital room, looking over study materials and giving Aaron a practice test to work on.
Time flew by, and soon it was evening. Marguerite’s phone buzzed.
It was a friend request from the one in charge of KANYO Hospital.
She accepted, and a message immediately came through.
