EEG Results.
“Here, let me help you,” Alice said, stepping closer to Xavier and carefully unbuttoning his shirt so the doctor could examine the wound.
It had been three days since Xavier was admitted to the hospital. The investigation was still ongoing.
Alice and Serena visited him daily, but most of the time, it was Alice and Xavier’s mother who stayed. This time, they were alone on a late Friday morning. Xavier’s mother had returned to his apartment to do laundry.
After unbuttoning his shirt, Alice stepped aside. The doctor moved closer and leaned
in.
Tall and elegant, with sleek dark hair tied into a polished low bun, the doctor was beautiful. A little older, but definitely still a beauty.
The doctor smiled at Xavier first.
“Well,” she said smoothly. “Let’s check on our brave patient p>
The doctor’s gloved hands pressed along Xavier’s chest-professional, but her gaze lingered.
“Very good healing,” she murmured. “Your muscle density helps. Strong body.” The doctor adjusted the bandage, her fingers brushing lower than necessary.
“You’re recovering quickly,” she continued, her voice warm. “Men with your build usually do. You can be discharged tomorrow. The nurse will give you instructions on how to clean your wound and change your bandage p>
Alice was really weirded out at that point, but she maintained her composure.
The doctor finished securing the bandage and stepped back. Then she reached into her coat pocket.
She pulled out her business card and held it between two manicured fingers.
“If you’d like,” she said lightly, handing it directly to Xavier, “you can call me if you want me to change your bandage personally p>
She paused.
Then winked.
Alice saw it, and Xavier blinked.
The doctor smiled sweetly. “Some patients prefer consistency p>
Alice limped as she stepped forward. She plucked the card out of Xavier’s hand before he could even process it.
“Thank you,” she said with a smile that did not reach her eyes. “I’ll be handling his consistency p>
The doctor’s lips curved faintly, amused.
“Well,” she said, glancing once more at Xavier, “if you change your mind, my direct number is on there p>
When the doctor was gone, Alice went to the restroom and tossed the card in the trash bin.
“That was weird,” Xavier hissed, leaning back.
“Actually, I think you were enjoying that,” Alice remarked, and Xavier laughed.
It shouldn’t have surprised Alice. There had always been something quietly appealing about Xavier. His light gray eyes behind thin glasses were warm and steady, and when he smiled, it softened his whole face.
The way his hair fell slightly longer around his temples made him look approachable, like someone you’d trust without thinking twice.
“No, actually, it has been a while since someone openly flirted with me,” he shared.
“I guess I haven’t been out much. I have dedicated my life too much to work and… helping Serena p>
“Hey,” Alice reacted. “Don’t say that p>
“I don’t regret it,” Xavier said. “I am happy to be part of Serena’s life—the kids and her family p>
“Just maybe… this time,” he said, attempting to button his sleeves, “maybe I should also… give time to myself p>
He was having difficulty closing his shirt. After all, his other arm was still injured.
Alice helped button his sleeves, and it was probably thanks to that doctor that she ended up checking him out.
Yep, he did not have a great body. It wasn’t remarkable, but it was good.
‘Wait, why am I checking out my best friend?’ She shook her head and returned to the topic at hand.
Looking into Xavier’s gray eyes, she
agreed, “Of course. Serena would want that too-for you to find your
own happiness. That way, we will all be happy p>
“When I’m able to walk properly, and you’ve fully healed, we can… find our own happiness,” she smiled. “Together p>
Xavier laughed, and the warmth of his smile lit up his face, making the bruise seem almost irrelevant.
He gripped her hand and said, “Together p>
Just then, Serena walked into the room. She brought food. “Lunch, guys p>
“Serena? What brings you here at this time of the day?” Alice asked.
“I need to get Alisa’s EEG results,” she said. “Figured I’d have lunch with you guys p>
After lunch.
“Uncle Xavier, you look off,” Sebastian said after seeing his face through the video call.
On the screen, Alisa nodded to her brother. She put her hands on her face, her mouth rounding in shock.
Xavier laughed, and so did Serena and Alice.
“I told you this was a bad idea,” Xavier said, turning to Serena.
“When they heard you got hurt, they wanted to see you badly.” Serena shrugged. “I tried to set expectations p>
“Don’t worry, guys,” Xavier said. “When I’m all better, Uncle Xavier will look handsome again p>
“Great! And you can play with me and my dad!” Sebastian suggested.
There was an awkward silence after that. Serena knew it would take time for Xavier to accept Nathaniel fully She instead told her son. Are you done eating, Bastin? Ali? Wash up and prepare for your afternoon nap p>
Alisa nodded, while Bastin said, “Okay, Mom p>
After the call with the kids, Serena
checked the time. “I should go amet
get Alisas results now won’t Mags back. I’ll go straight to the office.
“Bye,” Alice said, hugging her. “Hope the results are okay p>
“I’m sure it’s okay. Alisa’s fine, Serena,” Xavier said, smiling at Serena.
Serena believed it too. She was optimistic. Soon, she made her way to the Neurology Department and got the results.
What she saw made her heart dip with worry. Her brows knitted as the word escaped her, “No p>
