“Miss, have you seen the news?” Helene called first thing on a Wednesday. “Mr. Silas Vander is in trouble. It’s not looking good for the company p>
Serena had just finished changing. She was about to head for work when the call came.
“What? What do you mean?” Serena asked.
“Miss, check the internet for news about the boss,” Helene said.
Serena immediately went online and read the headlines.

After that Sunday picnic lunch, the kids stayed with him. Serena slept over with Nathaniel until Monday, but returned to her parents’ home so she could get some rest.

After finding Silas in the living room, they made their way to the office. Sterling came with them, and he was fuming.
Immediately, on that same day, the board of directors requested an emergency meeting, and what was said did not sit well with Serena and Silas.
Melvin was smiling as he read the news. He glanced at the other board members who were on his side, and they smiled at him.
This was it. This was the start of Sterling’s downfall — all of them, including Silas and Serena.
Of course, the company tried to defend Silas. The PR team immediately released a statement denying all allegations, but either way, the damage had already been done.
Silas’s trust rating went down, and VanderMed Technologies’ stock prices began to drop.
It did not take long before Silas, Serena, and Sterling arrived. Xavier was also present. He had returned from his long leave.
They looked bothered — extremely bothered.
Sterling’s face was red, and so was Silas’s. Clearly, the father and son had fought on the way to the office.
“Sterling, don’t worry about these allegations. I’m sure they’re all false. Silas isn’t that kind of man. We taught him well,” Melvin said, standing up.
The meeting began shortly after, and the board members started questioning Silas.
“First, the kickbacks, and now this? Silas, are you still fit to be CEO?” Mr. Graham Whitlock asked.
“What do we do now, Sterling? Our stock prices are dropping,” Miriam, another shareholder, said. “This started after the design leak of our massage chair project p>
“But we’ve proven that we were the first to patent that design,” Melvin tried to defend Serena.
“Yes, but the point is, there is a leak, and now our competitors have come up with their own designs, quite similar to ours,” Miriam explained. “That won’t make us unique anymore p>
“Why? From one problem to another?” another shareholder sighed.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Silas began, his voice steady despite the tension in the room; “I need you to remain calm. We designed that massage chair long before anyone else even conceived the idea. Being first is not just about paperwork – it’s about execution p>
He paused, letting his gaze sweep across the table.
“Our competitors may imitate the structure, but they cannot replicate our technology, our supply chain, or our brand positioning — and most especially Serena’s brain p>
“And trust in my brother,” Serena spoke. “He will oversee an aggressive and exceptionally refined campaign. We won’t just release a product — we will dominate the narrative p>
“As for the allegations against me, I am willing to take a polygraph test to prove my innocence,” Silas said, raising his chin.
Melvin’s pulse stuttered.
A polygraph?
He certainly had not expected Silas to offer that so boldly.
Seven years ago, he had paid Janice to lure Silas Vander into bed. It had been a simple trap – compromise him, record it, destroy him when the time was right. But something had gone wrong that night. The plan had stalled.
The complication was never identified.
For years, Melvin had waited, watching, pretending loyalty while sharpening the
blade behind his back.
