‘His friends,’ Serena noted. Dennis and Peter were fine, but truthfully, she wasn’t looking forward to meeting Timothy again. Still, since they had already agreed, she said, “We’ll go, but we might not stay long p>
Serena checked the time and, seeing how late it was, urged, “You should go p>
“I wasn’t planning to keep you up,” Nathaniel said. “Thank you for the coffee p>
He glanced around the suite and added, “Mind walking me to the door p>

She pointed toward the main door. “It’s that way p>
A hiss escaped his lips. He ran his fingers through his hair, somehow making himself look even better. “Can you walk me to the door p>

Nathaniel wasn’t leaving yet, so Serena stood and walked him to the door. She only meant to see him out.
Before she could open it, he pulled her into an embrace.
It caught her off guard. She didn’t have time to react, to step back, or push him away. His arms held her tightly, as if he were afraid she might disappear again.
“Nathan,” she said, trying to stop him.
“Please,” he said quietly. “Just let me hold you. Just for a few seconds p>
She went still.
She could feel the warmth of his body and the slight shaking in him. His breathing
was uneven, and his voice sounded strained when he spoke.
