A group of students crowded around the bulletin board, buzzing with excitement. The air shifted as soon as Charlotte appeared. Instantly, every pair of eyes found her.
Everyone knew about the genius Mr. Lane had brought in. Bald Lee had tried to mess with her, and she hadn’t just stood her ground-she’d completely taken him down. Now no one dared to say a word, and a quiet respect filled the room.
Charlotte glanced up, her sharp features relaxed and a little lazy. She was tall enough to see the announcement on the bulletin board without even trying.

According to the Board of Education’s investigation, Ronald has been found guilty of breaking the teacher’s code. Because the bribe he took was so large and the consequences were so serious, he’s lost his teaching credentials, been fired, and is banned from ever working in education again.
The notice went on to explain how Ronald had tried to frame Shirley for cheating just to make money.
A small, satisfied smile flickered on Charlotte’s beautiful face as she read the last line. After a few seconds, she looked away, her expression cool and unbothered. All that was left was the quiet hum of students talking in low voices.
“Did you see Charlotte? She’s so cool.”
“Seriously, Mr. Lane calls her a genius. I bet there’s no one else like her in the world.”
“She’s amazing at computers, her grades are off the charts, and she’s gorgeous. Anyone who said she was just a pretty face on the forums can eat their words.”
“I’ll bet anything Charlotte becomes the biggest surprise at Vanguard High.”

Charlotte, her voice sharp. “So what if she can type a little and solve some problems? If she’s that amazing let’s see her get first in every subject on the next exam.”
“I don’t know what kind of dumb luck she has to know Mr. Lane,” Nancy grumbled, looking at Olivia. “You should go talk to him, Olivia. He’ll drop Charlotte for you in a heartbeat.”
Olivia felt a surge of annoyance but kept her sweet smile in place. “Mr. Lane? Being his student sounds boring. Honestly, I don’t even like physics that much.” Her voice was dismissive.
“True.” Nancy nodded, agreeing right away. “You’re about to compete in an international piano competition. It’d be a waste to hide your talent in a lab.”
“When you win, everyone in school and all of Cabinda will be proud of you.” Not everyone could be Laura’s student, after all.
A sly smile tugged at the corner of Olivia’s mouth. Sooner or later, she’d put Charlotte in her place and grind her into the dirt.
But still…
Charlotte’s grades from the countryside were supposed to be terrible. How did she suddenly know so much? And who was that guy with the fancy car who picked her up? Was she really being kept by someone?

Charlotte walked into the classroom with her backpack. The moment she stepped inside the noisy students fell silent and moved aside to let her through. Their looks had shifted from curiosity to pure admiration.
She had gotten rid of Bald Lee, helped Ms. Adams become the new grade leader, and thanks to her, the top two students in the whole school were now in Class C. Suddenly, their class was famous.
It was all because of her.
Charlotte headed straight to her seat and sat down. Before she could even settle in, Shirley leaned over, resting her chin on the desk and staring up at her with huge, sparkling eyes.
