The chair shattered with a loud crack, pieces scattering across the floor.
“Charlotte, are you alright?” Andrew and Parrish jumped up right away, eyes glued to her hand.
Charlotte’s wrist was bright red, swelling quickly against her pale skin.
“Charlotte Shirley had been peeking through the door, but as soon as she saw what happened, she rushed over. “It’s swelling so much.”
Dennis never thought Charlotte would be so bold. She’d blocked the chair with her bare arm like it was nothing. He stumbled back in shock, trying to flee. But just as he reached the door, he ran straight into a couple of cops and paramedics who had just shown up. His legs gave out and he dropped right to the floor.
It was midnight by the time everyone made it to the police station. The group of thugs sat slumped in a corner, bandages barely holding them together. Across the room, Andrew and his friends stood, arms crossed, refusing to look intimidated.
“So, who started it? Someone better talk,” the police officer said, sipping a cup of hot tea and eyeing the group.
“It was him!” Shirley jumped in first, pointing right at Dennis. “He brought his guys to my house and threatened my grandma. My friends just wanted to protect us.”
“That’s not what happened at all,” Dennis shot back, a lazy smirk on his face. “I came by to apologize, since we had a misunderstanding. But you couldn’t let it go. You refused to hear me out and had Charlotte attack my men.”
He added, “And let’s be honest, Charlotte’s always been violent. No one should be surprised she did this.”
Shirley was shaking with anger. He was twisting everything. “You’re lying,” she snapped, voice trembling.
“Officer, look at the injuries,” Dennis said smoothly. “My guys are trained
bodyguards. If they hadn’t just stood there, how else could a girl like Charlotte hurt them that badly?”
“That’s not true!” Shirley’s eyes were red with fury.
“You’re really going to blame us?” Andrew stepped forward, fists clenched, ready to swing again.
“Quiet,” the officer said, taking

another slow sip of tea. He frowned, acting like he was thinking it over. “He’s got a point. It’s hard to believe a bunch of grown men would lose to one girl unless they let her. If you have proof they started it, this will be easy to sort out.”
He tapped his pen on the desk for emphasis. “If you don’t, though, the injuries are
all on them, so you’re going to have to take responsibility.”
Andrew, Parrish, and Shirley could all see it. This cop was siding with Dennis, looking for any excuse to let him off. Charlotte stayed quiet.. Maybe her hand hurt too much maybe she was just too angry to speak. Either way, her expression was cold enough to scare anyone.
“Charlotte, you’ve got two choices,” the officer said. “One, bring us proof. Two, admit you’re mainly responsible. Since you’re still a student, we can let this go if you cooperate. Everyone gets to go home.”
While he was talking, the officer casually pulled out his phone and sent a message to Henry Dean.
Henry, Dennis’s situation is tricky, but the other party is just a girl with no connections. Dennis will be fine. You can focus on your meeting. No need to worry.
Word was, Charlotte had already cut ties with her family. Even her own father didn’t care about her. She had no one on her side. The easiest thing for everyone would be to keep this quiet the school got wind of Charlotte would be the one to pay the price.
