Chapter 302
“If you really want to give me something, just send me some pocket money.”
“Whatever you say,” Roger said with a smile.
After transferring the money to Charlotte, he told her, “Get some sleep. If you need more, just ask.”
Charlotte gave him a small nod. She glanced down at her phone and froze.
One million in pocket money?
She let out a soft, dry laugh. Backing out of the payment app, she checked her chat messages. Still nothing new, just the last text from the night before.
Great.
She let out a frustrated sigh, put her phone on silent, tossed it aside, and closed her eyes.
Evening came.
After dinner at the Gates family house, Robert personally walked Charlotte out to the car, loading her up with carefully chosen gifts.
“Only two months until your entrance exams, right?”
Robert held her left hand, Samantha had her right. Roger stood on her left, Kevin on her right, all of them staring at her as if they couldn’t stand to let her go.
Kenneth was already in the driver’s seat, hands in his pockets, that lazy half-smile on his lips. The whole scene made him roll his eyes a little. It’s not like Charlotte was never coming back. There was no need for the dramatic goodbye.
Charlotte just nodded, playing along.
“Don’t stress yourself out,” Robert said. “You get into whatever school you get into. If you don’t make it, Grandpa’s got you covered.”
“Dad, Lottie’s super smart,” Samantha said, beaming at her daughter. “She even got first place in physics. When you graduate, if you want to try the entertainment world, Kenneth can show you the ropes.”
Kenneth almost choked. “Please no, don’t make me responsible for her.”
“If you want to study medicine, Roger could help Samantha paused,
reconsidering. “Roger’s a forensic doctor, but that still counts, kind of. He could help a little.”
Roger’s face fell. He was planning to ask Lottie some questions about anatomy, not the other way around. Help her? He didn’t feel qualified at all.
“If you want to join the army Samantha suddenly looked serious. “No way. You’re too tiny. You’d get hurt.”
“Whatever you want to do, we’ll all support you, no matter what,” she finished.
“That’s right,” Kevin agreed, nodding. “If you want, you could even inherit The Gates Group.”
Kenneth and Roger shared a look.
“I’m in,” Kenneth said.
“Works for me,” Roger added.
Charlotte just looked at them, completely straight-faced. “I don’t want it.”
Kevin looked at her, speechless. A billion-dollar inheritance and nobody wanted it. If
anybody else heard this, they’d think it was hilarious.

After they left the Gates house, the car had barely gone a few blocks before they spotted Anthony leaning against his car on the side of the road, smoking. He stood tall, sharp featured a black trench
coat
fluttering around him, looking cool and distant.
When he heard the car coming, Anthony flicked away his cigarette and started
walking their way, his dog 98K trotting beside him.
Kenneth muttered, “Honestly, his looks are the only thing that make him worthy of
you. Otherwise, I’d want to knock his teeth out.”
Charlotte glanced at Anthony, her voice a little rough. “Go for it.”
Kenneth blinked in surprise. “What?”
Was Charlotte not going to defend Anthony anymore?
