Chapter 380
Jackson sat in the passenger seat, busy making arrangements for their flight home. Just a few minutes earlier, Charlotte had changed her mind on a whim and decided they’d head back to Cabinda in an hour. The private jet crew barely had time to get
ready.
Adonis lounged behind the wheel, his leg bouncing as he flashed a mischievous grin. “Charlotte, you really pulled off a genius move there,” he said, clearly impressed. “You saved us a ton of money and nearly gave the X Organization’s boss a heart attack.”
Charlotte was in the back, pen in hand, doodling and jotting things down on a blank sheet of paper. She barely looked up as Adonis kept talking.
“But I don’t think God’s the type to let this go,” he added, chattering away.
Charlotte arched a perfectly shaped eyebrow, mouth curving into a sly smile. “And you think I am?” Her tone was light, but there was a hint of danger there. They still hadn’t settled things over what happened with N Organization.
She finished her note, then tossed the prescription over to Jackson and leaned back, closing her eyes as if she didn’t have a care in the world. “Get someone to deliver this to the lord of the castle,” she murmured.
“Yes, Charlotte.” Jackson took the paper, but before he could tuck it away, the car suddenly jolted hard.
“Shit!” Adonis cursed. He’d been humming along to a song, totally relaxed, and the impact nearly made him lose control of the wheel.
In the back seat, Charlotte’s brows pinched together in annoyance. She cracked an eye open and checked the rearview mirror. Two cars were right on their tail.
“Charlotte, looks like it’s X Organization,” Adonis said, gripping the wheel tighter and slamming on the gas to try to shake them off. “They must’ve spotted us when we left the pharmacy.”
Leave it to the X Organization to send people who actually know what they’re doing. They’d waited until the last possible moment to make their move.
Before Adonis could say anything else, the car got slammed from behind. If his reflexes weren’t quick, they’d all be tumbling down the cliff right now.
“They’re really out for blood!” he shouted.
Charlotte just yawned, not even bothering to sit up or look worried. “We blew up their casino and took the B20. Of course they want us dead. What did you expect?”
Adonis had nothing to say to that. She was right.
“But, Charlotte
“Shut up and step on it,” she snapped, her eyes cold. “If you can’t lose them, you deserve whatever happens.”
That shut Adonis up. He held his breath and floored the accelerator. The black sports car tore down the twisting mountain road, the engine roaring through the valley. But no matter how fast they went the cars behind just multiplied. Now there
were three more.
X Organization was really going all out. They’d even brought in their top Reaper Division.
“Watch out!” Jackson yelled.
He reached over and grabbed the
wheel, jerking it to the side just as bullets slammed into the road- behind them. The car fishtailed
around a sharp turn, tires screeching and sparks flying.
He and Adonis locked eyes, both pale and shaken. No one knew better than them how deadly X Organization’s weapons were. If they got hit, there wouldn’t be much left of them.
The attack from behind was relentless. They couldn’t keep this up much longer.
Just as Adonis was about to beg Charlotte to do something, she suddenly sat up and grabbed him by the collar.
“Jackson, take the wheel.”
Before anyone could react, she tossed Adonis into the back and vaulted oyer the center console with impossible grace. She landed in the driver’s seat one hand on the rice!, the other tugging down the trim of her cap. Under her long, dark lashes, her eyes were sharp and bright, burning with a cold, dangerous fire.
