Emily’s eyebrows shot up the moment she heard the question.
Now she remembered. This was the same girl who had come to her at the office and whispered all that gossip about Charlotte. What was she up to now?
Emily’s face hardened as the memory hit her. This girl had tried to stir up trouble behind Charlotte’s back and almost made Emily turn against her for no reason.
“There haven’t been any changes. Why do you want to know?” the assistant director replied, confusion all over his face.
No changes? Olivia could hardly believe it. She’d seen Emily catch Charlotte flirting with Andrew, not to mention getting cozy with the guy Olivia herself had a crush on. Yet Emily hadn’t lost it and kicked Charlotte off the project?
That just didn’t make sense.
“It’s nothing,” Olivia said, forcing a smile even though her disappointment was obvious.
Earlier that day, she’d tagged along to the karaoke bar, hoping Charlotte would make a fool of herself. But then Kenneth showed up, and suddenly the whole floor was cleared out. Olivia hadn’t even made it through the door, let alone witnessed any drama.
Did something go wrong? Was Emily supposed to catch Charlotte red-handed, but it never happened?
“Oh, okay,” the assistant director said, shrugging. Then he leaned in as if sharing a secret. “Honestly, I thought you’d heard that Timbre was at Flux Digital tonight and wanted to meet her.”
“Timbre is here?”
Timbre was a legend. She was the kind of voice actor everyone wanted but could never get. Olivia hadn’t expected to have a chance to meet her, not in a place like this.
“Can I meet her?” Olivia blurted out, excitement flickering in her eyes.
A dry laugh came from behind her.
“Emily.”
The assistant director straightened up right away, suddenly all respectful.
“Emily, you’re still here?” Olivia said, quickly switching to her fake-friendly voice and walking over like they were old friends. “It’s solated, thought you’d have left by now.”

Emily stood with her arms folded, her gaze cold and sharp as she stared Olivia down.
She knew exactly what Olivia was up to. She’d tried to turn Emily against Charlotte, asking about the voice cast and hoping Emily would fire her. It was so obvious-Olivia thought she could use Emily to get rid of Charlotte.
But Olivia didn’t know the real secret. She had no idea Charlotte was actually Timbre.
“I’ve got a few things to take care of,” Emily said with a faint, almost mischievous smile. “There’s a voice actor I’m not happy with. I’m thinking about replacing her.”
Replace a voice actor? Olivia immediately thought of Charlotte. Finally, she thought, karma had caught up with her.
“You want to replace someone?” the assistant director asked, surprised. Emily hadn’t mentioned this before. “Who do you mean?”
“I can’t remember her name,” Emily said, her tone casual. “But I know her face.”
The assistant director looked
uncomfortable. “Well, the recording’s all done for today, and a lot of
people have already left it’s going to be tough finding someone based on their face alone.”
He glanced at Emily, clearly baffled by her sudden decision.
Emily didn’t say a word. Olivia pressed her lips together, ready to say she knew who Emily meant, but Emily spoke first.
“No need to look. She’s right here.” Emily’s eyes locked on Olivia, her words icy and deliberate. “Take her off the voice cast.”
What?
Emily wasn’t angry at Charlotte after all? She wanted to fire Olivia?
Olivia’s face went pale. She felt numb, her lips trembling as she barely managed to get the words out. “Emily, do you mean me?”
Emily’s mouth curled into a cold smile. “Is there anyone else standing here?”
