Roger and Kenneth? Charlotte traced her finger along the edge of the invitation, suddenly feeling a lot more confident with their support on her side. A sly smile curled on her lips. “Did you find any clues about ‘Sunset’?”
Spending a fortune on a painting… That was exactly the kind of wild thing Anthony would do.
“Sunset’?” Anthony looked down at her, eyes narrowing a little as he studied her face. “No, why do you ask?”
If he’d found any clue, he would have bought it already.
So it wasn’t Anthony? Besides him, who else would shell out millions just to buy a painting for their grandmother? Unless…
Could it actually be one of the guests at the banquet today?

The next morning, Charlotte was still half-asleep when someone knocked on her door.
Helen’s gentle voice followed soon after. “Charlotte, Emily sent something over for you.”
Emily? Charlotte threw back the covers and grabbed her phone. Sure enough, there were a ton of messages from Emily. The most recent one arrived just fifteen minutes ago.
[Charlotte, I heard you’re coming to Grandma’s birthday banquet today, so I picked out a dress for you. It’s gorgeous. Trust me, you’ll outshine everyone.]
A dress?
“It really is beautiful, Charlotte. Want to try it on?” Helen asked with a grin. Today was a big day. First, she’d be at Patricia’s birthday banquet. Second, she’d meet Anthony’s parents for the first time. Looking her best definitely wouldn’t hurt. Charlotte set her phone aside and carefully lifted the dress by its delicate straps. The moment she saw the plunging neckline, a wave of dread washed over her.
It was stunning and clearly expensive.
She suddenly remembered how Anthony had once replaced every school uniform overnight, just because he thought her skirt was too short…
If she wore this dress… Someone might actually die.
As Charlotte stood there debating what to wear, she felt a pair of strong arms wrap around her waist from behind.
Anthony’s deep, steady voice rumbled in her ear. “Helen, bring over one of Charlotte’s usual simple dresses.”
Charlotte didn’t move, just looked at him.
“I told you, just be yourself. You never have to change for anyone,” Anthony said quietly. His gaze slid to the revealing dress in the bo something dark flickered in his eyes. “And from now on, keep you

“Achoo!” Emily, who was already at the banquet hall, suddenly sneezed. Her ears
felt warm. Who was talking about her?
Half an hour later, Anthony walked out in a sharp suit, holding a carton of milk in one hand and Charlotte’s fair hand in the other as they headed for his sports car. fo

“Anthony, Charlotte.” Hans hurried to open the car door for them. “Patricia has already called several times to check on you,” he said politely.
“Got it.”
Anthony nodded and glanced down at Charlotte, his voice gentle. “Are you nervous?”
“Me?” Charlotte felt the sweat in Anthony’s palm and shot him a teasing look, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Funny… He seemed more nervous than she was.
After all, they were going to meet his grandmother and his parents.
