Charlotte shifted her phone to her other hand, freeing up her right hand to grab a
bottle of milk from the table. With a flick of her thumb, she popped the cap off. It shot across the room, smacking the wall with a sharp crack that perfectly matched her mood.

“I’m tired.” Charlotte took a sip. The milk tasted off, nothing like the creamy kind Anthony always kept stocked at home. She wrinkled her nose, annoyed. “I’m hanging up now.”

Anthony tried to get another word in, but she ended the call. As the dial tone hummed, he frowned, his handsome face shadowed with frustration. The whole room seemed to get colder.
Hans, who had been waiting nearby to give his report, suddenly felt uneasy. Had Charlotte just given Anthony the cold shoulder again? Judging by Anthony’s reaction, that was probably the case. It was like he wasn’t dating a girlfriend, but taking care of a spoiled princess.
“Anthony.” Hans hesitated, then bowed his head. “There’s news about N Organization.”
Just hearing the name made Anthony’s mood even darker. He looked ready to snap.

“Yes, sir.” Hans swallowed. “The boss of N Organization just arrived in Frostford.”
He hadn’t tried to contact X Organization about negotiations yet. Clearly, this guy was patient. Dangerous, too. When the two organizations fought over territory before, they had almost lost to him. Hans wondered what would happen when they finally came face to face again.

Hans waited, barely breathing, heart thumping. He couldn’t mean it. There were hundreds of people at stake.
“Send them all to the desert for hard labor.” Anthony took a long drag from his cigarette, the smoke drifting around him and making him seem even more intimidating.
Hard labor in the desert? That was savage. Worse than just killing them. And for N Organization, it would be humiliating a blow to their reputation they might never recover from.
“Yes, sir.” Hans bowed again.
One day. That meant by tomorrow,

scratched his head as he walked
away sure the date meant
something but he couldn’t
remember what. Whatever. He had
bigger things to worry about.
Across the city, Jackson was relaying X Organization’s demands to Charlotte, word for word.
“That’s pretty much it.”
As soon as Jackson finished, Adonis, who was sitting next to him, laughed. “Charlotte, Anthony is so sneaky.”
