In just three days at the base, Charlotte had already finished all the pills she brought with her. She figured it wouldn’t be a big deal to skip them tonight.
Before crawling into bed, she hesitated for a second, then turned to the others. “Oh, by the way
The three girls immediately peeked out from behind their curtains, eyes wide and full of curiosity.
“It’s nothing important,” Charlotte said, running her fingers through her hair, looking more serious than she meant to. “But if anything weird happens tonight, don’t freak out, okay? Just stay calm.”
“Huh?” All three stared at her, completely puzzled.
What could possibly happen while everyone was asleep?
“I don’t sleep very well,” Charlotte admitted, biting her lip as she tried to explain. “Just… don’t be surprised, alright?”
She promised herself she’d try to keep it together.
The other girls exchanged looks, then fell silent, lost in their own thoughts.

The dorm lights clicked off, leaving everything in complete darkness.
Charlotte lay in bed, waiting for sleep that just wouldn’t come. After half an hour, she was still wide awake. Three hours later, she felt even more restless. She checked her phone. It was already three in the morning.
Anthony had to be asleep by now, right?
With a little sigh, Charlotte pulled her blanket closer and grabbed her phone. She opened Anthony’s profile and sent him a random sticker.
Not even two seconds later, he replied. Lottie, since when do you stay up this late? Charlotte blinked at her screen. Why was he still awake?
She was still thinking of what to say when another message popped up. Lottie, come downstairs.
Downstairs? Was he seriously outside at this hour?
It was three in the morning. He was actually waiting for her outside the base?
Charlotte stared at her phone for a few seconds. Suddenly, her eyes lit up.
She slipped out of bed, threw on a jacket, and hurried outside without a second thought.
As soon as she stepped out of the dorm, she spotted him under the moonlight. Anthony was standing there tall and lean a cigarette smoldering between his fingers. He looked as calm and collected as ever.

Charlotte’s eyes narrowed just a little and she sped up, heading straight for him.
As soon as she got close, Anthony stubbed out his cigarette, dusted off his coat, and walked over in long, confident strides.
They didn’t even say a word. Anthony just reached out and pulled her straight into his arms, holding her tight like he never wanted to let go.
He smelled clean, with just a hint of smoke, and there was something about it that made her feel instantly at ease.
All of a sudden… she felt sleepy.
“Couldn’t sleep?” Anthony bent down and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, his voice barely above a whisper.
“Yeah.” Charlotte nodded, pressing herself closer to his chest. She nuzzled into his neck and mumbled, “Now I’m sleepy.”
