Chapter 628
“We’ll talk when you actually get him here.” Charlotte’s eyes landed on Anthony, who was watching her with a gentle smile. “And don’t pick on Anthony.”
Donald had planned to pull Anthony aside for a serious talk as soon as Charlotte left, but after hearing her say that, he decided to let it go.
“I’m heading out.” Charlotte turned away. Once she was around the corner and out of sight, she took out her phone and called Jackson. “The plan to buy the formula from L at a high price? Forget it. Stop the whole thing.”
Jackson was stunned. “Stop it? Charlotte, are you sure?”
“L only gave us half the formula, remember?” Charlotte said.
The two-year deadline had finally arrived. Their research on the formula had caught up, but getting the other half would mean paying a huge sum and training another batch of soldiers for The White Whale for free.
Now, out of nowhere, she wanted to give up? Was she really going to walk away from the formula?
“Yeah, I’m sure. Stop everything.” Charlotte glanced up at the bright sunlight, feeling better than she had in ages. “We won’t have to pay for it. We’ll get it for free, just wait.”
Jackson was baffled.
“Oh, right. I forgot to mention, L is Donald.”
On the other end, Jackson and Adonis were silent for a moment.
“Wait, L is Donald?” Jackson finally blurted out. “Isn’t Donald… your big brother?”
Adonis’s jaw dropped. “This is straight out of a soap opera.”
He made a little praying gesture. “God help him.”
Charlotte hung up and started walking back to her group, totally unaware that someone was hiding in the shadow of a tree behind the iron fence not far away.
Olivia had just come back from the restroom. She happened to catch Donald sending Charlotte off, a huge smile lighting up his face.
Wasn’t L supposed to be this cold, serious guy who never smiled? SO why did he look so soft in front of Charlotte? Everything about his body language screamed that he wanted to please her.
Could it be that L was planning to recruit Charlotte? Or maybe… he liked her? Why? Why did everyone like Charlotte? What made her so different?
Staring at Charlotte’s back, Olivia’s fists clenched tighter and her eyes grew darker.
Tomorrow’s field training was coming up. Janie would make sure Charlotte paid for
it.

At that moment, in the office, two men with intimidating auras sat across from each other on the couch.
“Does your family know about you and Lottie?” Donald reached into a drawer, pulled out a pack of cigarettes, and offered one to Anthony.
As far as he knew, Lottie wanted to keep her connection to the Gates family a secret. To everyone else in Cabiridas she was just a girl fronta bankrupt family, abandoned by her father.
The Blair family was at the top of Cabinda’s social ladder, way above the Gates
family. To them, even girls from other rich families barely mattered.
