Their eyes met, and Samantha’s bag slipped from her hand, hitting the floor with a loud thud. The sharp sound echoed through the empty hallway, cutting through the silence.
That noise caught the attention of the two people hugging nearby. They both turned, first catching sight of Kenneth, who looked like he’d seen a ghost, then Samantha, who seemed completely stunned.

“Anthony might be a little older, but he really cares about Lottie.”
Anthony nearly rolled his eyes. Great, as if Samantha needed another reason to notice the age difference.
“No, wait, that’s not what I meant Kenneth tried to backpedal, rushing to explain. “Before Lottie moved in with us, Anthony was the one who took care of her. He’s always been super thoughtful and pays attention to everything.”
Sometimes he even thought Anthony was going to spoil Lottie rotten.
“Before she moved in?” Samantha immediately picked up on that and her expression darkened. “So you’re telling me Lothe was still in high school when the two of them got together?”
Kenneth was speechless. That was definitely not what he meant.
Charlotte pressed her lips together, feeling helpless. At this point, she was half
convinced Kenneth actually liked Anthony and was trying to mess things up between them.
“So you knew about this the whole time?” Samantha snapped, smacking Kenneth’s arm. “You stay right there. Once I’m done here, I’ll deal with you.”
Kenneth scowled and muttered under his breath, “I’m not the only one who knew. Donald and Roger knew too.”
Samantha looked like she might explode from anger.
Just as she was about to lose it,
Anthony Stepped forward. He bowed his head and spoke in a calm,
respectful voice. “Samantha,
actually planned to tell you about me and Lottie today”
He glanced around, looking a little embarrassed, but didn’t try to run from it. “This is
my fault. I’ll explain everything to everyone.”
Samantha stayed quiet, her eyes moving to Charlotte, who was standing quietly behind Anthony. It wasn’t that she didn’t want Lottie to date. But Anthony was… different.
