Chapter 793

Was it really Questlaw?

When Sun blurted out the name, his assistant scrubbed his eyes, practically burning holes into Questlaw with his stare. Two years ago, he’d been lucky enough to catch that legendary showdown between Sun and Questlaw in court. Sun had been so outmatched by her arguments he could barely string a sentence together. If the other lawyers hadn’t held him back, he probably would have leapt over the bench to take a swing at her. The image of Sun, eyes red and on the verge of tears after losing, was something the assistant could never forget.

He never imagined this case would be the one to drag Questlaw out of retirement.

Sun just stood there, completely stunned, staring straight at Charlotte. Every ounce of pride and confidence he had was wiped away, replaced by pure shock and fear. He hadn’t even spoken to her yet, but just seeing Questlaw was enough to make him feel helpless.

Why was it Questlaw? How could she even be here?

Fedelia, watching Sun’s reaction, immediately knew something was off. She leaned in, lowering her voice. “Sun, are you alright?” She couldn’t understand why he looked so rattled by the other lawyer. And why did this new woman seem so familiar?

“I’m fine,” Sun replied, forcing himself to sit. He picked up his tea, took a couple of quick sips, and tried to swallow his nerves. “Don’t worry. I’ll give it everything I’ve got. I’m not losing this case.” His voice was low, but determined. This time, he was determined to defeat Questlaw and finally put that old humiliation behind him.

Charlotte stepped up as the second defense attorney. Lyndon could only stand by, quietly handing over documents whenever she needed them. The moment Questlaw appeared, Sun’s bravado from earlier completely vanished.

Sun cleared his throat and presented his evidence. “Here’s the plaintiff’s medical history. These records show she’s struggled with severe mental illness, so anything she says can’t be trusted.” He slapped a fat stack of files on the table, all from her time in treatment.

Stella’s hands clenched tight. She glanced quickly down into the crowd, catching a glimpse of Roger. He was watching the judge, face blank and impossible to read. He knew about her past. Did he care? Would he judge her for it?

Her eyes dropped to the scars crisscrossing her hands. She forced a bitter smile. Of course he’d care. She could barely stand it herself, so how could she expect anyone else to feel differently?

“Your Honor, these psychiatric reports clearly prove Stella has

mental problems,” Fedelia piped up eager to jump in She was having an episode and imagined Letty wanted to kill her. This whole thing has nothing to do with Letty.”

Mahoney didn’t say a word, but it was obvious he agreed. If they didn’t find

someone else to blame, they’d all end up behind bars.

With the defense table silent, Sun felt his panic start to fade. If they had more evidence, they’d have shown it by now. If they couldn’t*** refute his points, it didn’t matter that Questlaw was here.

He gripped the edge of the table, excitement building. He could already picture Questlaw looking defeated as she left the courtroom. Finally, he’d get his revenge.

“Order,” the judge called, banging the gavel as the room buzzed. “Counsel for the plaintiff, you may speak.”

Charlotte looked up. She reached over, squeezing Stella’s sweat-slicked hand, offering a steady, reassuring nod. Stella met her eyes, her nerves beginning to settle.

“I have four pieces of evidence here,” Charlotte said calmly, “that prove my client was framed and slandered. The defendant, Letty, and her parents, are guilty of attempted murder.”

Attempted murder. The accusation hung in the air, heavier than anything—far more serious than manslaughter or covering up a crime.

“What is this woman talking about?” Fedelia hissed, barely keeping her voice down. “Four pieces of evidence? I’d love to see what she’s got.”

Charlotte didn’t flinch. “First, I have

Stella’s health reports from the past three months. They show she’s

mentally sound. After the incident,

psychiatrist evaluated her and

confirmed she was perfectly stable.”

“Second, I have Letty’s examination results. She was also evaluated by a psychiatrist. Her mental state checked out as completely normal.”
