Lemira looked up as Orion approached her. After a moment’s thought, she didn’t refuse, and they went to dance.
The steps weren’t difficult; she had taken dance lessons before.

She helped Stella partly for her friend, and partly for herself.
After today, Asher would surely despise Evelina, blaming her for ruining the birthday party.
And Lemira was eager to see what Evelina would do next.
Orion glanced at her. “Stella is still a bit too weak to stand up to Mrs. Waverly on her own p>
“It’ll take time. As long as Stella sees Mrs. Waverly for who she is, she’ll find a way to become independent. Look at me I broke away on my own, and I’m doing just fine p>
Lemira met his gaze, and for a moment, her mind drifted. Distracted, she accidentally stepped on his foot.

Orion smiled faintly. “My apologies. I was late today. If I had arrived earlier, you wouldn’t have been targeted by them p>

Lemira looked down, avoiding his eyes, and quickly changed the subject. “Since you’re here, does that mean your grandmother’s condition has stabilized p>
“Yes, it’s stable for now p>
His tone grew somber at the mention of his grandmother.
A silence fell between them, and neither spoke again.
After the dance, the party began to wind down.
Lemira wanted to go home with Stella, worried that Mrs. Waverly would give her a
hard time if she went back to the Waverly estate alone.
Orion glanced at her. “Don’t worry. The Langstons’ behavior today thoroughly embarrassed Mrs. Waverly, to avoid gossip about mistreating her niece, she won’t go

Stella’s parents may have been gone, but she still had friends and relatives watching out for her.

Lemira went outside, where guests were already leaving in a steady stream.
Once in the car, she said to Orion, “I’m not going back to school. Take me to the Langston house p>
Orion frowned instinctively. “Are you sure p>

Asher was the one calling the shots in the Langston family now. Since Evelina had ruined his plans, Lemira was eager to go home and watch the fallout.

He clicked his tongue. She wasn’t going to be easy to win over.
Meanwhile, Lemira walked into the villa, her mind elsewhere, only to be met with the sound of Evelina’s wails-a shrill, tragic cry.
